<div class="crosshead" style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.creativebloq.com/graphic-design-tips/how-to-design-a-brochure-123267"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Source: http://www.creativebloq.com/graphic-design-tips/how-to-design-a-brochure-123267 </span></a></div>
<h3 class="crosshead">
01. Know your purpose before you start</h3>
<figure class="captioned-image" style="width: 535px;"><img alt=" Know your purpose" src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2012/03/how-to-make-a-brochure.jpg" style="width: 535px;" />
</figure>
When you're thinking about how to design a brochure, start
by asking clients why they think that they need a brochure. Then, they
need to define their objectives. Sometimes they just want one because
their last brochure didn't work. If they've come up with a brief for
you, take a step back from that and look at exactly what it is they're
trying to achieve.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
02. Limit your fonts</h3>
You don't need many fonts when you're thinking of how to
design a brochure - just a heading, subheading and body copy font. But
we see it all the time in student portfolios - people think they need to
find a headline font nobody has ever used before. Clients will usually
take the lead on fonts as they'll often have a corporate identity in
place.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
03. Take stock of your paper stock</h3>
Talk about paper stock before you put pen to notepad, let
alone go as far as switching on your computer. If you're working for a
client, ask if it has to be the standard A4. Find out if they've
considered using uncoated paper, for example. there a great post here on making a paper choice.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
04. Get your copy right</h3>
<figure class="captioned-image" style="width: 535px;"><img alt=" Get your copy right" src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2012/03/ART193.manual_60_61.3rock_hands1.jpg1.jpg" style="width: 535px;" />
</figure>
Great copy is often the most undervalued element in brochure
design. A lot of people don't understand that copy needs to be
considered as part of the overall design concept.<br />
At the early stage of any brochure design project,
experiment with the copy to see if it needs reworking. Headlines aren't
something to just drop in later. Here's a great copy writing guide.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
05. Put readers first</h3>
When thinking of how to design a brochure, keep the end
purpose in mind. Is this a brochure that's going to be posted out in
response to requests made on a website? Is it a giveaway at an
exhibition, or a leave-behind brochure? When someone opens it, what will
it say to them? Design for that person, not for yourself.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
06. Think of simple statements</h3>
<figure class="captioned-image" style="width: 535px;"><img alt=" Simple statements" src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2012/03/ART193.manual_60_61.bpf_hands.jpg.jpg" style="width: 535px;" />
</figure>
You want to know how to make a brochure that stands out,
right? Sometimes the simple ideas are the best. If a client has decided
they want lots of cliched images to get a particular point across, it's
probably better to scrap them. The solution might be to use a
typographic cover instead, and make a very literal statement about what
they want to say.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
07. Set pen to paper</h3>
Break out the layout pads and try drawing and sketching
ideas to start with. We brainstorm everything among everybody - Toast
projects start life on layout pads with pencils and pens. What we don't
do is take a brief, go away for two weeks and then present three
concepts to see which one the client hates the least.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
08. Keep what works</h3>
Don't try to be wacky or different just for the sake of it
when you're thinking of how to design a brochure that gets noticed. For
example, most designers use the same 10 to 20 fonts across a lot of the
projects they work on. There are sound design reasons why Helvetica is
used a lot, and why Rockwell is a good headline font.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
09. Make a good first impression</h3>
<figure class="captioned-image" style="width: 535px;"><img alt=" Make an impression" src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2012/03/ART193.manual_60_61.cardmaster_hands.jpg.jpg" style="width: 535px;" />
</figure>
Brochure designs need to fit in with what the client does as
a business. Charities don't want luxury brochures that'll make people
think they've spent a lot of money on them, whereas a new product might
need a brochure that looks amazing on an exhibition stand beside it.<br />
<h3 class="crosshead">
10. Shoot sharp</h3>
To make a product brochure pleasurable to flick through, you
need good photos. If you're using stock imagery - budgets don't always
stretch to a photoshoot - try to find pictures that don't look like
they're stock images. Never cut corners with images.</div>

Source: <a href="http://www.creativebloq.com/print-design/how-save-money-your-brochure-printing-11135379">Creativebloq</a><br />
<br />
There’s no reason why you can’t create a brochure that is both cost-effective and beautiful. <br /><br />Whether
you need 10 or 10,000 copies, brochure printing can be an expensive
business. So how do you know that it's money well spent? And what can
you do to save some cash without skimping on design or print quality?
Here are some key factors to take into consideration.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>01. Size and page count</b></i></span><br /><img src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2013/11/bro1.jpg" /><br />When
you're trying to be economical, it's tempting to just try and fit as
much content and as many images as possible onto fewer pages. This is
rarely a good idea, and can easily look cramped, cluttered and
unprofessional, yet brochures don't always need to be heavy or large to
have the desired effect and create a strong impact. Clear and concise
copywriting will ensure that you only include the information that is
necessary, and where design is concerned, less is very often more.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>02. Paper stock</b></i></span><br /><img src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2013/11/bro2.jpg" /><br />Your
choice of paper stock will depend largely upon the type of brochure you
are creating, the audience you are targeting and the amount of handling
the brochure will receive. Generally, the more prestigious the project,
the thicker the paper stock you will need, and this thicker paper will
increase your overall costs.<br /><br />If your brochure is for a high-end
corporate conference, you will obviously need to choose the best stock
you can afford, but if you're working on a brochure for a series of
informal summer concerts at the local bandstand, for example, you can
opt for something thinner and cheaper. Matching the paper to the project
will mean that you won't spend money unnecessarily on premium paper
stock, so make sure that you ask your printer to advise you accordingly
and show you some samples.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>03. Sheet usage</b></i></span><br /><img src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2013/11/bro3.jpg" /><br />The
number of pages that fit on a press sheet can have quite an impact on
your bottom line when it comes to brochure printing. Projects that use
the entire sheet are more economical than those which use only half or
one quarter of the sheet, and as well as paper wastage, the effects of
increased plate costs and setup time on the press mean that your
brochure printing costs may be much higher than they need to be.<br /><br />With
a bit of careful planning and by talking to your printer before you
even start your design, you can ensure that your project is as
economical and as environmentally friendly as possible.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>04. Inks, colours and typescripts</b></i></span><br /><img src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2013/11/bro4.jpg" /><br />Using
spot colours or metallic inks is an additional cost that is not usually
necessary for the majority of brochure projects, although in some cases
where you're making cost savings in other areas, they can give a plain
design that extra je ne sais quoi. Sometimes even standard four-colour
printing can be avoided and with high-quality design, monochrome or
bi-colour brochures can be every bit as aesthetically pleasing and up to
date as their colourful counterparts.<br /><br />It may be something you've
never considered, but even your choice of typescript has an impact on
the amount of ink used on a particular project. Century Gothic and Times
New Roman, for example, use far less ink than Arial. If your brochure
is very text heavy, this might be something you could discuss with your
printer.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>05. Folding techniques</b></i></span><br /><img src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2013/11/bro5.jpg" /><br />If your
brochure is fairly informal and doesn't consist of too many pages, you
might consider folding it in an unusual way. Using a quirky folding
technique can ensure that even the simplest of brochures can be given a
bit of a lift and create a talking point. Just make sure that the style
remains in keeping with the content of the brochure itself and that it
remains user-friendly.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>06. Quantity</b></i></span><br /><img src="http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2013/11/bro6.jpg" /><br />The
larger your print run, the less you will pay per copy. But of course you
don't want to print so many that you're still sitting on a pile in the
office in five years' time, by which time your brochure is long out of
date. That wouldn't be economical at all. So you will need to have a
reasonable idea of how many copies you need before you start. Make sure
you ask your printer for several estimates based on short, medium and
long runs so that you can make an informed choice and not need to do
repeat runs unless absolutely necessary.<br /><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>07. Accuracy</b></i></span><br /><br />It
should go without saying, but the last thing you want to do is waste
money on unnecessary brochure printing because you made a mistake in the
original file. Check, check and check again that your work is correct
before sending it to print, to save you having to pay resubmission fees
or, worse still, having to fork out for a completely fresh print run.<br /><br />By
considering the above features, talking to your printer and planning
your project carefully right from the outset, there's no reason why you
can't create a brochure that is both cost-effective and beautiful.<br /></div>

Sourec : <a href="http://www.articleonlinedirectory.com/757661/printing-trends-in-producing-your-own-marketing-brochures.html">http://www.articleonlinedirectory.com/757661/printing-trends-in-producing-your-own-marketing-brochures.html</a><br />
<br />
Businesses want to always offer the best to their customers, whether it
is products, services, or marketing materials. This is their only way to
get loyal patrons who will be willing to invest their hard-earned money
on the business. Some will try to be as creative as they can be just to
capture peoples attention while others will offer extremely low prices.
Creativity or low prices, gaining peoples interest and loyalty will
basically depend much on how you market your business. People will often
base their decisions on how effective you are in convincing them to
invest their money on you.<br /><img alt="http://www.fuse8.com/assets/code/51062" class="decoded" height="210" src="http://www.fuse8.com/assets/code/51062" width="400" /><br />This will require you to establish a
tight marketing program that will let you get in touch with your target
customers successfully. With todays technology, it should be easy for
you to produce marketing materials that will suit your business. But
sometimes, you dont have to look any further in order to find the
perfect material to invest in. Some of the proven and tested old
marketing materials are still effective today as they were in the past.
Take the brochures as an example.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />Brochure printing is an old
marketing strategy but it proves to be still effective in todays market
condition. In fact, brochures are one of the best tools in the market
arena these days. They are engaging and interactive allowing people to
get a thorough description and information of the key features and
benefits of the products or services offered. If you want to gain
success on your brochures, you need to carefully consider the design and
copy of your material. You need to carefully plan your brochure in
order to make it as effective and successful as it can be. Here are some
of things worth remembering when creating your own brochures:<br /><br />Go big<br />A
bigger brochure provides more room for information and images. If you
have enough budget, it will be best if you opt for a large brochure. You
can consider an 11 inches by 17 inches size or bigger, depending on
your need. This doesnt mean though that you should overcrowd your
material with too many details. Just provide what is necessary so you
dont confuse and overwhelm your readers.<br /><br />Folding style matters<br />Most
brochures are folded in tri-folds; however, you can try other folds if
you want to make a difference. Some of the folds you can try are
half-fold, four-panel fold, and z-fold. These folds will give you the
chance to break up the text and group similar information for easy and
smooth delivery of your message.<br /><br />Go for quality<br />The overall
appeal of your brochure will greatly affect the message you convey to
people. Be sure to print your brochures professionally so you get only
good results. Opt for a high quality paper stock so you can guarantee
the durability of your material. If you want to use recycled paper, make
sure it is think and sturdy. Ask your printer for the best kind of
printing techniques to use to guarantee the quality of your brochure.</div>

<br />
Many people completely overlook business cards when starting up their
new company, mainly due to the capabilities of social networking on the
world wide web. However, traditional networking is still a very
valuable source when looking for new customers and clients, and the best
way to network in the “real world” is by word of mouth. In most cases
family members, friends and other members of the public forget about new
start-up companies (which is unfortunate), therefore they need
something to remember you by. You guessed it: a business card.<br />
If you want potential customers/clients to hold on to your business
card, it needs to stand out from the crowd; it needs to be something
special. This amazing compilation showcases some of the freshest
die-cutting trends used in business cards – so get your thinking cap on
and start designing your business card now. After all, it is likely the
most powerful piece of card your company will ever see.<br />
<span id="more-3412"></span><br />
<h2>
Square-Cornered Cards</h2>
These business cards are the same size and shape of common,
standard-sized business cards but with a slight twist. The die-cutting
process has been used to cut shapes out of the business cards, making
them much more interesting and appealing. <br />

the price of standard, square-cornered cards.<br />

Adding a fold or two to your business cards is never a bad thing. It
allows your potential customers and clients to interact with the card,
keeping them occupied with a product with your company name on it for a

of being stood upright, meaning they can be propped up on your client’s
desk.<br />

<br />
Are you still giving out boring business cards that look like
something your accountant designed for you? If so, maybe you should get
with the times and create a new business card for your business.<br />
Whenever most people think about business cards, they think of a
boring and dated mode of marketing. But guess what? Creative
individuals and businesses are doing great things with business cards
these days.<br />
In recent years, business cards have taken on a new life, with
designers and creative types pushing the limits of what we once thought a
business card should be. The right business card can act as one of
your most powerful marketing tools and can actually be fun…..if your
ready to put some creativity into it.<br />
A great business card should provide basic information about you and
your business, but the way you present it can be as creative as you want
it to be. While some recent trends have emerged like adding QR codes
and Social Media links on business cards, these are far from unique and
will do nothing to liven up an already boring business card. With some
imagination, quality printing, and a little fun…..you can have a
business card you’re proud to hand out at your next networking event. Let’s look at some new trends in business card design that can breathe life into an old medium.<br />
<h2>
Social Media Business Cards</h2>
Whether on Facebook, Twitter or just doing a Google Search….we are
all familiar with the standard screen displays for each of these
platforms. Why not have some fun and re-create that experience on your
business card? Creative, fun and original can be used to describe cards
like these.<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/facebook-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1954"><img alt="facebook business card" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1954" height="621" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/facebook-business-card.jpg" title="facebook-business-card" width="470" /></a><br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/google-search-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1955"><br /></a>
<br />
<h2>
Simple and Elegant Business Cards</h2>
Some of the best business cards are also the simplest. Trying to do
too much on your business card can make it look scattered and
unprofessional. Consider trying something simple. Quality paper stock and nice typography are the keys to making a beautiful and simple business card.<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/simple-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1951"><img alt="simple design business card" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1951" height="297" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/simple-business-card.jpg" title="simple-business-card" width="600" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/simple-creative-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1949"><img alt="simple logo and design business card" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1949" height="450" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/simple-creative-business-card.jpg" title="simple-creative-business-card" width="600" /></a><br />

<br />
<br />
<h2>
Business Cards made from Unique Materials</h2>
You don’t have to create you’re business cards from standard paper
stock. Just like with promotional items, you can have your business
information printed on just about anything.<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/1-seeds-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1964"><img alt="business cards from seeds" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1964" height="339" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/1-seeds-business-card.jpg" title="1-seeds-business-card" width="460" /></a><br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/cloth-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1959"><img alt="business card made of cloth" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1959" height="324" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/cloth-business-card.jpg" title="cloth-business-card" width="450" /></a><br />
<h2>
Business Cards with Unique Shapes</h2>
Just like with the type of material you use, don’t think that your
business card has to be the standard four corner business card.
Sometimes even a slight variation from the standard sized business card
can help you stand out from the crowd.<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/ninja-star-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1958"><img alt="unique shape business card" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1958" height="300" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/ninja-star-business-card.jpg" title="ninja-star-business-card" width="400" /></a><br />

<br />
<h2>
Everyday Items as Business Cards</h2>
One of the most creative trends in business card design is using
everyday items we see as the basis for business card designs. This is a
good idea if you can tie the item to something specific to your
industry, like a travel agency using a luggage tag design for their
business card.<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/govt-issued-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1969"><img alt="government issued id business card" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1969" height="328" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/govt-issued-business-card.jpg" title="govt-issued-business-card" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/business-card-trends-should-now-about/price-tag-business-card/" rel="attachment wp-att-1960"><img alt="price tag business card design" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1960" height="329" src="http://media.thesmallbusinessplaybook.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/price-tag-business-card.jpg" title="price-tag-business-card" width="450" /></a><br />

<h3>
Business Cards can be as creative as you want them to be.</h3>
Exchanging business cards is still one of the most popular ways to
network offline, why not put in a little time and effort and come up
with something fun and memorable? Be a hero at your next networking
event and be the one with the cool business card everyone wants to copy.</div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">What's New</span>Of course, some aspects of
business cards are industry-specific. What works for a photography
studio won't necessarily work for a real-estate agent. That's why it's
important to first think about the message you're trying to send. "We're
finding more and more business cards are an extension of the brand and
the personality of the company," says Rob Schlacter, VP of business
services for Staples, Inc. and head of the "Business Cards in Minutes"
program.<br />
With that in mind, here are eight of the top trends our
experts highlighted to help your company's personality shine through
while looking professional:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQYIMQ90mA2fTSx7958nBdWUSgkIeUkESmPMnr_E6RBJyfv0SJ3MqdkgVEyxp5jEIj_Um15TipiJliP2_wGfRDCJRch-23iqnKYyxXWcN7_Bx11kROz0oLk-KJinjWZLIXClTC5U_B7ac/s1600/card6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQYIMQ90mA2fTSx7958nBdWUSgkIeUkESmPMnr_E6RBJyfv0SJ3MqdkgVEyxp5jEIj_Um15TipiJliP2_wGfRDCJRch-23iqnKYyxXWcN7_Bx11kROz0oLk-KJinjWZLIXClTC5U_B7ac/s400/card6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<ol type="1">
<li><b>Incorporate foil accents.</b> These elegant accents can add an artistic flair and make your words "pop" off the cardstock.</li>
<li><b>Add some color.</b>
Crowe says full-color backings are popular right now. Also, depending
on your industry, unique, colorful illustrations or images can leave a
lasting impression.</li>
<li><b>Use both sides.</b> The back of the card,
which was previously uncharted territory, can be used for more than
just contact details. "Include a special offer, highlight your website,
insert a calendar or insert an appointment slot," suggests Crowe.</li>
<li><b>Try hi-tech.</b>
Worried you forgot to mention important details in your last meeting
with a potential client? Then leave them with a CD. Another
up-and-coming way to market your business is the USB business card.
Print your contact information on a USB thumb drive and share as many
files and images as you want.</li>
<li><b>Go vertical.</b> If you're
looking for a way to stand out, try giving your layout a 90-degree turn.
Crowe says she's seen more clients choosing to print vertically instead
of the traditional horizontal layout.</li>
<li><b>Stick with a traditional size.</b>
Though our experts recommend experimenting with the layout, they say
you should stick with the traditional 3.5-by-2-inch business card
dimensions. That way, they fit easily into your client's Rolodex or
wallets.</li>
<li><b>Give your card texture.</b> Hawthorne Leather Goods
LLC, which manufactures leather goods under the brand Rawlings Sports
Accessories, makes business cards out of authentic Rawlings baseball
glove leather. The company says recipients of the cards have an
emotional response thanks to the scent and feel of the baseball leather.</li>
<li><b>Get social.</b>
Schlacter says high-school age teens venture into Staples to create
social networking cards that include information like Facebook and
MySpace links. If your business uses social networking as a marketing
tool, consider displaying that information on your cards.</li>
</ol>

Every printed project requires you to balance cost, schedule, and
quality. You can save money printing a publication by planning early,
and by accurately estimating which tasks you can accomplish, and which
tasks you would prefer to have us handle. Here is a list of some
specific items that you may want to keep in mind when developing your
project:<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Your project budget may be a determining factor in the
selection of certain options such as paper, ink, and bindery. Imagine
your project at both extremes—the minimum requirement and the maximum
impact—and we’ll help you tailor your project to fit within the budget
you’ve allowed.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Your schedule will play an important part in completing your
project. We realize that schedules don’t always follow an ideal plan.
Our production team is prepared to accommodate even the most demanding
schedule.<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Do you know how many copies you plan to print? When running a
job through our high-speed copy department, each sheet costs just about
the same, no matter how many sheets are run through the machine.
However, for jobs running on the press, you might be surprised to know
that ordering a few more copies generally does not add a lot of cost to
your job.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>The dimensions of your publication may have an impact on which
equipment is used to produce your printing project. Once you finalize
your product’s dimensions, we can begin to finalize our production
process.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>The colors you plan to specify can have a huge impact on the
production of your final piece. In most cases, avoid specifying colors
based on the way they appear on your monitor. Instead, for the most
predictable results, let us help you choose colors from a color-matching
system.<br />

<li>Determine who will be performing pre-press tasks. Accomplishing
pre-press tasks can be easy with professional-quality software, but
acquiring the skill and experience to do them takes time. If you are new
to preparing printing projects, it may be worthwhile to leave the
responsibility of pre-press tasks to our experienced pre-press team. As
you gain experience, you may wish to consider investing in training and
equipment to do more pre-press work yourself.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Your use of bleeds can have an effect on the production
process. Bleeds (graphics that print past the trimmed edge of the page)
must be accommodated through special handling and setup. Please allow an
extra 1/8 inch for any graphics that bleed.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>The graphics in your publication need to be prepared to
printer-friendly specifications. Please see our Short Answers to Digital
Questions section to become familiar with some of the basic
requirements for preparing graphics.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Your choice of finishing and binding (if any) will complete the
job. Many customers are not aware that we can help you complete your
project with our full-service bindery. Finishing and bindery services
consist of more than just cutting and folding. You might be surprised at
the variety of options available that can add value to your project!</li>

<ul>
<li>Bond papers
are commonly used for letters and business forms. They have surfaces
which accept ink readily from a pen or typewriter and can be easily
erased.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Coated papers are used when high printing quality is desired
because of its greater surface smoothness and uniform ink receptivity.
There are many kinds: cast coated, gloss coated, dull coated, machine
coated, coated one- and two-sides, etc.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Text papers are noted for their interesting textures and
attractive colors. They enjoy frequent use for announcements, booklets
and brochures.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Offset papers are considered the most economical printing
papers. Offset papers may be used for directories, newsletters, books,
direct mail pieces with only a few photographs, and other printing
products requiring average quality.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Cover papers complement coated and text papers in heavier
weights and matching colors for use as covers on booklets, etc. Papers
are also made for cover purposes only. Many special surface textures are
available. Special characteristics of cover pages include dimensional
stability, durability, uniform printing surface, good scoring, folding,
embossing and die-cutting qualities. It is a useful rule of thumb that
cover stock of the same basis weight as text paper has about twice the
thickness.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Index papers have two outstanding characteristics—stiffness and
receptivity to writing ink. Index is commonly used whenever an
inexpensive stiff paper is required.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Tag is a heavy utility sheet. Tag board is sometimes tinted and
colored on one or both sides. Tag stock has good bending or folding
qualities, and a surface adaptable to printing, stamping, or writing.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Bristol is one of the board grades, with a softer surface than
index or tag, making it ideal for high-speed folding, embossing, or
stamping. It is very receptive to ink and has good snap and resilience.<a name='more'></a></li>
</ul>
If your printing project includes <b>envelopes</b>, there are many styles to choose from.<ul>
<li>Commercial envelopes are used for business correspondence, either surface or airmail, and are available in all standard sizes.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Window envelopes are used primarily for statements, dividends
and invoices. The window saves time and prevents an element of error by
eliminating typing of an extra address. Window envelopes are made in all
sizes and styles, from many types of paper.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Self-Sealing envelops have latex adhesive on upper and lower
flaps that seal instantly without moisture when the flaps come together.
These envelopes are a time saver in handling.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Booklet, Open-Side envelopes are ideal for direct mail. A concealed seam lends itself to overall printing in front and back.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Baronial envelopes are a more formal open-side envelope with a
deep, pointed flap. They are often used for invitations, greeting cards,
announcements, etc.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Clasp envelopes are sturdy and widely used for mailing bulky
papers. Metal clasps are smooth and burrless. This type of envelope may
be opened and closed many times.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Open-End envelopes are used for mailing catalogs, reports,
booklets and magazines. Wide seams and heavy gummed flaps ensure maximum
protection under rough handling conditions.</li>

Choosing the right ink combinations can have a dramatic effect on your

ink selection.<br />
<ul>
<li>Black ink, as you might expect, is the most common and least expensive ink.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Spot colors and tints are printed with premixed inks. You can
choose from among thousands of different spot-color inks. A spot color
printed at 100% is a solid color and has no dot pattern. A tint is a
lightened spot or process color and is created by printing smaller
halftone dots of the base color.<img alt="http://cdn.firespring.com/images/ef5b52d2-9f0b-28d5-d7b8-89b41eef1354.jpg" src="http://cdn.firespring.com/images/ef5b52d2-9f0b-28d5-d7b8-89b41eef1354.jpg" /><br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Process colors are reproduced by printing overlapping dots
(halftone screens) of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) inks.
Since CMYK inks are translucent, they absorb some colors and reflect
others. To create blue, for example, you combine cyan dots and magenta
dots. Your eyes merge the cyan and magenta dots to perceive the color
blue. Process (CMYK) printing gives us the ability to simulate
photographic images using just four basic ink colors.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
</li>
<li>Metallic inks use metallic powders to give a pleasing metallic
luster. Metallic inks can often add an extra sparkle or touch of class
to your printing project.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Magnetic inks were developed to increase the speed and
efficiency of handling bank checks. These inks are made with pigments
which can be magnetized after printing, and the printed characters are
later “recognized” by electronic reading equipment.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Fluorescent inks are naturally bright inks. They are used for
jobs of a semi-permanent nature, such as labeling, packaging and direct
mail.<br />
<br />
</li>
<li>Varnish is used as a coating over printing to protect the printing and increase gloss.<br />
</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
Here are some guidelines for specifying colors.<br />
<br />
Use spot colors when<br />
<ul>
<li>You need three or fewer colors and you will not be reproducing process-color photographs.<br />
</li>
<li>You want the limited color variety you get from one or two-spot colors and tints of those colors.<br />
</li>
<li>You want to print varnishes or special inks, such as metallic or fluorescent spot inks.<br />
</li>
<li>You want to print logos or other graphic elements that require precise color matching.</li>
</ul>
Use process colors when<br />
<ul>
<li>You
need more than three colors in your design. In general, printing with
process inks costs less than printing with three or more spot inks.<br />
</li>
<li>You want to reproduce scanned color photographs or color artwork that can only be reproduced with process colors.</li>
</ul>

<br />
The emergence of digital and Internet technologies in recent years have brought about new <em>printing trends</em> that will forever change the printing industry. These printing industry trends have changed the way companies do business from the design to the printing phase of operations.<br />
In Australia, the printing industry
has met these new printing trends with open arms as many have updated
their workflow and production strategies to meet the changing demands.
On the other hand, many of those who never made these important changes
have struggled because of the growing competition by non-print and
online media.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZsM51jcjRNA63MZfspnG9RdjR7mvuxfrJEOQVPfTV7WA6kMLEyfn0D4j31R8t6uwCfc9mmpl8_zYTIhUqk3NLQx_rOEKRS8-v9XR2Nt5lPy3N43vtEhn9Hm9I1LgAXCAatd7ClMr2aE4/s1600/Commercial-Printing-Trends.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZsM51jcjRNA63MZfspnG9RdjR7mvuxfrJEOQVPfTV7WA6kMLEyfn0D4j31R8t6uwCfc9mmpl8_zYTIhUqk3NLQx_rOEKRS8-v9XR2Nt5lPy3N43vtEhn9Hm9I1LgAXCAatd7ClMr2aE4/s320/Commercial-Printing-Trends.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
According to the Rochester Institute of Technology School of Print
Media, there has been a growing media competition considering the fact
that print advertising is driven by newspaper, magazine and periodical
revenues while "the Internet is chipping away at traditional media usage
and communication."<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The recent developments in the printing industry can be attributed to several printing trends:<br />
<h2>
Workflow Digitisation</h2>
<ul>
<li>One of the most important printing industry trends has been the electronic delivery of files as desktop publishing takes full control of the printing process.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>There's an emerging need for the electronic delivery of graphics and images, which has made film media process obsolete.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>The industry has adopted automated workflow processes that would
link customers, printing systems and services like never before.</li>
</ul>
<h2>
Technology Integration</h2>
<ul>
<li> Printing trends
are gearing towards full workflow automation with the development of
computer-to-plate imaging technologies that allow desktop publishing
applications to output directly to a printing plate.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Many printing presses are integrating "hybrid" printing by combining
different reproduction processes since many print jobs are complex with
specialised coating or printing requirements.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>There's a growing trend in cross media conversion from one file to
any information distribution and electronic publishing methods.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>The advancement of digital technologies such as Direct Imaging
offset presses and Inkjet printers have made colour printing cost
effective.</li>
</ul>
<h2>
Changing Demands</h2>
<ul>
<li>Printing trends have also pointed towards shorter production runs and schedules in an effort to compete with digital printing.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Printing production now shifts closer to the point of distribution
as printing trends move away from being press-centric to
printer-centric.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>A greater volume of printing jobs has moved away from printing
companies to those produced by desktop printing and offshore printing
firms.</li>
</ul>
The implementation of new <em>printing industry trends</em> such as
the workflow digitisation, technology integration and changing demands
have transformed companies into more efficient and effective businesses.
However, some niche pre-print operations are now rendered obsolete
because desktop publishing has eliminated the need for pre-press and
film-based processes. The implementation of a digitised workflow has
further automated the printing process and at the same time freed the
operation from labour-intensive tasks that may hamper production
schedules. Despite the growing significance of online-based services,
the printing industry remains strong and enduring as it adopts new
strategies to achieve success in the future.</div>Printocityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04646492360836856269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1748704613485514758.post-70364918709277255962012-07-06T09:12:00.000-07:002012-07-06T09:12:19.199-07:00Postcard Printing Trends<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Postcards are one of the most effective components of a marketing
strategy and a really practical way to promote your business. Their main
purpose is to connect your company with the potential and existing
customers. However, postcards have to be designed well. They have to
effectively communicate with your target audience. Providentially, a lot
of postcard printing
trends have emerged. These postcard printing trends are in the service
of the company needs. At the same time, postcards are cost effective.<br />
grabbing.
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.tooft.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/postcards-in-colors.jpg"><img alt="postcards in colors Postcard Printing Trends" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8981" height="300" src="http://www.tooft.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/postcards-in-colors.jpg" title="postcards-in-colors" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
What include the good postcard printing trends? Firstly, they are in
full color because colorful postcards look attractive and vibrant. Not
surprisingly, they have a deeper impact on the minds of your potential
clients. Secondly, the standard size (of 4″ x 6″ ) has increased to
bigger ones, such as 6″ x 9″ or 7″ x 10″. This switch has provided the
postcards to be more stylish, so the companies are much more ready to
use them in these sizes. Maybe they will cost a little bit more than the
standard sized postcards but the benefits are undoubtedly higher. Also,
you can combine different sizes and find out what the consumers like
more.The next way of using postcards is as a coupon. Nowadays, there are
companies that use coupon postcards in order to promote their business.
The consumers can benefit from them because can receive a discount if
bring a coupon. At the same time it is good for the company because it
gets more traffic.<span id="more-8979"></span><br />
To conclude, many benefits from postcards can be accomplished both
for your company and for your clients. If you have a special event, a
big sale or only want to present your company in a few words, sending
postcards is a good solutions. It is easy, fast, effective and
attention-grabbing.</div>Printocityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04646492360836856269noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1748704613485514758.post-31485148618477164692012-07-01T01:50:00.000-07:002012-07-01T01:50:46.443-07:00What is going to be printed in 2012?<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<br />
As the New Year 2012 finds its space and some time to breathe in the
places which are still facing the conflicts. The age old tradition of
writing the books on paper using the pen is still followed among the
people who taught the world how to write the good and bad ideas to
present them well. A writer is forced by media to add spice to the
simple words. Whatever way you write, it has to sell and it has to find
its readers.<br />
Worth of a writer cannot be decided by the publication house but it can
certainly put you off track. A writer waits to be known as an author.
Lots of writers spend good time figuring out what is worth of writing.
Unfortunately the media studies lead nowhere. I try to list the some of
the things which can make sense. The list below is without any claims
and of course if you consider them for serious writing; please consult
the research group of your publishing house which will run the
statistical tools to determine whether a book must be printed.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<strong>Trends 2012 for Publishing Agents</strong><br />
Agents who push the publication houses with the right manuscript will
get busier in 2012 as well. Their holier and wiser than thou attitude
will make them miss several best sellers. The agents will realize how
it feels when you do not have competition in the market. There are no
major series which are being awaited by the readers. The agents will
push the fictions to later date and non-fiction stories will rule their
calendars. Why non-fiction? Non-fiction books with tell-all series can
guarantee the publication house that it will reach break-even point
sooner than expected. Fiction based story books, novels and poetry does
not appeal to the people who do not have time to go through the
imaginary plots. For agents in 2012, the theme is expected to be wars,
survivor stories, fall of the empires, and demise of dictators, revolt
and rebellion in the countries. Agents would be more interested in
looking at the first-person accounts of what went in Libya, North Korea
and other troubled places. Also, the stories emerging from the soldiers
who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan will also be taken with
interest. The list can be longer for them. As I said, every publishing
agent is wiser than me. Their wisdom will make them grab and miss the
best sellers both.<br />
<br />
<strong>Trends 2012 for Authors, Writers and Novices</strong><br />
It takes quite a long time to realize that an author is on wrong track.
The cliché is written words have some value while ideas are still
considered the intangible in the air assets. Year 2012 will see some
change in this paradigm. Authors and writers are becoming more assertive
of what they should be writing. Almost every publishing house has its
own research wing which can provide the data on what would be successful
in next year and the past sales figures can be judgmental on the things
which must be written about seriously. No writer can survive if he is
writing for self-pleasure. Well, the hard-reality of the market is that,
your books must sell to recover its cost and of course it must earn
some royalties for you as well. If your books are not making money,
soon you would become untouchable for many publications or until you
have something which will sell.<br />
Year 2012 will be ruled by the topics and subjects which are research
based. What ever happened at the world-stage in 2011 will influence
what you read in 2012. The writers, who are in the mode of gathering the
facts and figures which can be quoted in their work, will get the
readers who would be interested in buying the books. Great number of
writers will focus on telling the accounts of several people and the
stories of wars and struggle in Middle East and elsewhere will find the
ink being spilled on the paper. In 2012, non-fiction will remain all
time favorite. The world is waiting to hear and learn many things from
the conflicts of the past. Some more real stories will emerge and will
become famous.<br />
<br />
<strong>Trends 2012 for Publications</strong><br />
Publishing world will spend considerable time in researching the next
best possible series that would match the popularity of Harry Potter.
It is expected that a new writer will fill that space in 2012 and would
become instant hit again. It is certainly prediction that some of
manuscripts will make to that point. The publication houses will
continue in the ratio of 1:10 from 1:20. That’s how the profits are
generated. Also, some of the publication houses will not be able to
sustain the demands of changing times and will cease to exist. Year
2012 will continue to see the shift from paper to digital media. The
on-demand printing will continue to save money for all. The largest
buyers of the books will remain the libraries and archives where the
multiple copies are bought.<br />
<strong>Trends 2012 for Publication Distribution Networks</strong><br />
Most of the distributers of the books are worried because less number of
books are sold in the market. Consider the cases of the repeated
failure of well known authors in terms of sales numbers. Even the
distribution networks need that super selling author. The new trends
and bench-mark will be set in 2012 as the distribution networks and
providers of the services will shift to on-demand printing at various
centers all over the world. The collaborations and deals to publish
major books locally will make more sense because that would create the
win-win situation for all and it would also stop the wastage of money
which goes in transportation.<br />
<br />
<strong>Trends 2012 for Digital Books and E-Books</strong><br />
Almost all well known writers know and are dependent on the sale of the
printed books. The numbers of books sold in electronic format are not
still enough to replace the paper. Though, the digital books will pick
the market but the numbers will not beat the market. Kindle and other
devices failed to become the reading devices of the masses. The books
which are read in schools and colleges, still need to be printed on
paper. That is very large segment which could show the path to change.
Digital books and electronic books will not be that way popular as
expected. They would never replace the paper based books. It is not
expected so sooner.</div>Printocityhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04646492360836856269noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1748704613485514758.post-41244509818136107842012-06-22T08:10:00.001-07:002012-06-22T08:10:42.163-07:00Print - the new 'cool' in 2012<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

Smart printing,
that fulfils a particular need or niche, will survive the digital shift
into 2012 and beyond. I like to think that print will never disappear.
With many people spending their entire working day in front of a screen
or glued to their smartphone, easing the commute with a newspaper on the
Gautrain or relaxing in the bath with a book after a long day are some
of life's great luxuries.</div>
<div class="kInstance-Body">

</tbody></table>
Everyone's still talking about it...Two Sides Autumn Seminar,
held in London towards the end of 2011, reaffirmed the popularity of
print as an essential medium, citing print as 'the new cool' and having a
unique appeal. <br />
<br />
Speakers talked about how important print is
and results from their surveys suggested the younger generation actually
preferred reading on paper than reading on screens!<br />
<br />
<b>Comfort factor</b><br />
<br />
According to the November 2011 issue of <i>Loyalty Magazine</i>,
editors found that when they transferred their offering from print to
online, they received many concerned messages from readers who 'want to
be able to flick through and browse' the articles. Many readers
suggested that the online news service lacked the comfort factor of a
'real' magazine, so <i>Loyalty</i> decided to go retro and now publish a printed version three times a year.<br />
<br />
We
here at PocketMedia Solutions are strong believers that print will
always be a reliable and innovative way to market your brand. As former
BBC online editor Ashley Highfield suggests, "The trick is to help move
those brands into the digital age and get the right balance between
print and digital." Print is a crucial component to any successful
marketing or advertising process.<br />
<br />
<b>Trends that We foresee in 2012</b><br />
<ol>
<li>
Chunky catalogues continuing to be replaced with small hand-held forms
of print communication in 2012, directing consumers to websites or being
used as quick reference guides.</li>
<li>Manufacturers finding
more ways to become efficient at a lower cost through workflow changes,
new equipment purchases and diversification.<br /> </li>
<li>More use of QR codes providing marketers with integrated marketing campaigns<br /> </li>
<li>More dynamic use of augmented reality, with print communication as the driver.<br /> </li>
<li>The continued growth of ambient media; we are always looking out for something new.<br /> </li>
<li>Smaller print runs becoming more cost effective with digital print<br /> </li>
<li>Going Green - companies are turning more frequently to environmentally friendly solutions to lower their carbon footprints.</li>
<li>Shorter turn-around times - in print everyone wants everything yesterday; gone are the days of two week turn-around times.<br /> </li>
<li>All-in-one print mailing solutions became popular towards the latter half of 2011. I expect this trend to boom in 2012.<br /> </li>
<li>Return on investment - finding a marketing solution that consumers can keep offers a greater ROI for brands<br /> </li>
<li>For
the FMCG market, interactive bottle hangs are becoming popular and I
expect to see greater growth with this application in 2012 - especially
those that include a QR code or UFO, which opens to reveal a prize.</li>
</ol>

What trends are happening in the world of print for 2012?
<br />
<br /> <img alt="http://www.krdprint.com.au/images/print-samples.jpg" src="http://www.krdprint.com.au/images/print-samples.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>Increased cross-media </b>With the importance of online
as a media marketing tool, print has developed features to drive users
to your site, including the use of 2D bar-coding/QR Codes which can be
read by cell phones. This means that your Print advertising is not a
separate advertising option but part of a rich cross over marketing mix.
Print still has its own advantages over online and you can see how your
advertising campaign can benefit by getting the right mix. Look for
more innovations in cross-media as the entire marketing mix is viewed as
an interconnecting symbiotic whole. <a name='more'></a></li>
<li><b>Increased creative use of print’s uniqueness </b>Conversely
increased functionality, increased technical specifications – increased
potential to utilize and emphasize print’s uniqueness are all<b>printing trends</b> we
will see in 2012. As touch screens have taken over, the tactile, the
touch-ability, the fold-ability, the physical properties of print will
be increasingly used in creative ways to highlight its uniqueness; its
special qualities. This is where real creativity can surprise and
delight your target demographic, not just in the content, but how the
content and the media itself are used creatively.</li>
<li><b>Cheaper, faster, better. </b>Cheaper color prints in
small quantities and quicker turn around with less maintenance due to
advances and proliferation of digital printing technology are all trends
we will see in 2012. No longer does creating less than 1000 color
prints need to be prohibitively expensive. Maintenance is less involved.
And as digital technology ever increases, print is going to continue to
increase its potential to deliver high quality stunning images, of
potentially ever increasing size, quality, scope and speed.</li>
<li><b>Streamlining of marketing spend. </b>With changes in <b>printing trends,</b>your
printers should not just be seen as “ink men” but communications
companies, understanding the needs of the client and the campaign. By
reducing the need to outsource both a creative agency and separate
printing company, but instead by streamlining with a one stop shop
solution, precious money can be saved which can instead be invested in
the campaign itself. And the campaign itself will be aided by people who
understand print; people who live with it, breathe its qualities and
uses every day.</li>
<li><b>Increased interactivity. </b>One of the <b>printing trends</b> we
are going to be seeing is an increased data/analytic potential by print
entering the electronic sphere. Think of it like bio-technology. Part
organic part electronic. By seeing print as something that is both its
own media in its own right, but also entering and becoming part of the
electronic world through bar coding/QR coding/Microsoft tags, print
media can now be tracked for interactivity from potential customers. How
many people scanned your add? How many people who scanned this add in
the place of this demographic? The advantages of online can now be
extended to print by its interaction with the digital sphere, whilst
print can still serve you well with its broad range of benefits.</li>

Source - <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_printing">Wikipedia</a><b><br /></b><br />
<br />
<b>Offset printing</b> is a commonly used printing technique in which the inked
image is transferred (or "offset") from a plate to a rubber blanket,
then to the printing surface. When used in combination with the lithographic process, which is based on the repulsion of oil and water, the offset technique employs a flat (planographic)
image carrier on which the image to be printed obtains ink from ink
rollers, while the non-printing area attracts a water-based film (called
"fountain solution"), keeping the non-printing areas ink-free.<br />
Development of the offset press came in two versions: in 1875 by Robert Barclay of England for printing on tin, and in 1903 by Ira Washington Rubel of the United States for printing on paper.<br />
<br />
<img height="327" id="il_fi" src="http://www.erawanet.com/images/hp_series2000.jpg" style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="393" /> <br />
<h3>
<span class="mw-headline" id="Advantages"><a name='more'></a>Advantages</span></h3>
Advantages of offset printing compared to other printing methods include:<br />
<ul>
<li>Consistent high image quality. Offset printing produces sharp and clean images and type more easily than letterpress printing because the rubber blanket conforms to the texture of the printing surface.</li>
<li>Quick and easy production of printing plates.</li>
<li>Longer printing plate life than on direct litho presses because
there is no direct contact between the plate and the printing surface.
Properly developed plates running in conjunction with optimized inks and
fountain solution may exceed run lengths of a million impressions.</li>
<li>Cost. Offset printing is the cheapest method to produce high quality printing in commercial printing quantities.</li>
<li>A further advantage of offset printing is the possibility to adjust
the amount of ink on the fountain roller with screw keys. Most commonly a
metal blade controls the amount of ink transferred from the ink trough
to the fountain roller. By adjusting the screws the gap between the
blade and the fountain roller is altered, leading to the amount of ink
applied to the roller to be increased or decreased in certain areas.
Consequently the density of the colour in the respective area of the
image is modified. On older machines the screws are adjusted manually,
but on modern machines the screw keys are operated electronically by the
printer controlling the machine, enabling a much more precise result<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_printing#cite_note-6"><span></span><span></span></a></li>
</ul>
<h3>
<span class="mw-headline" id="Disadvantages">Disadvantages</span></h3>
Disadvantages of offset printing compared to other printing methods include:<br />
<ul>
<li>Slightly inferior image quality compared to rotogravure or photogravure printing.</li>
<li>Propensity for anodized aluminum printing plates to become sensitive
(due to chemical oxidation) and print in non-image/background areas
when developed plates are not cared for properly.</li>
<li>Time and cost associated with producing plates and printing press
setup. As a result, very small quantity printing jobs are now moving to
digital offset machines.</li>
</ul>

Side view of the offset printing process. Multiple ink rollers are used to distribute and homogenize the ink.<span></span><span></span></div>
</div>
</div>
The most common kind of offset printing is derived from the <b>photo offset</b> process, which involves using light-sensitive chemicals and photographic techniques to transfer images and type from original materials to printing plates.<br />
In current use, original materials may be an actual photographic
print and typeset text. However, it is more common — with the prevalence
of computers and digital images — that the source material exists only as data in a digital publishing system.<br />
Offset lithographic printing on to a web (reel) of paper is commonly
used for printing of newspapers and magazines for high speed production.<br />
Ink is transferred from the ink duct to the paper in several steps:<br />
<ol>
<li>The ink duct roller delivers ink from the ink duct to the ink pyramid, also called the <i>Ink Train</i>.</li>
<li>The ductor roller, sometimes called a vibrator roller due to its
rapid back and forth motion, transfers ink from the duct roller to the
first distribution roller. It is never in contact with both rollers at
the same time.</li>
<li>The distribution rollers evenly distribute the ink. The first
distribution roller picks up the ink from driving rollers, and the last
distribution rollers transfer the ink to the form rollers.</li>
<li>The transfer rollers transfer ink between the ink-absorbing and ink-delivering driving rollers.</li>
<li>Driving rollers roll against the distribution rollers and either absorb or deliver ink, depending on their placement.</li>
<li>Ink form rollers transfer ink from the last distribution rollers on to the printing plate.</li>
<li>The printing plate transfers the ink to the offset cylinder (typically called the <i>blanket cylinder</i>) usually covered with a rubber “blanket.”</li>
<li>The paper is then pressed against the blanket cylinder by the
impression cylinder, transferring the ink onto the paper to form the
printed image.</li>
</ol>

How many times have we thought twice before getting our business or visiting card designed? Have we ever thought that they are our first pitch towards getting new deal. Have we though how important they are for your business? Visiting cards are first impression of ours on others. Like we know that first impression is the last impression. Visiting cards can also sometimes bring in that effect. So next time you get your business card design, do keep following points in mind:<br />
<br />
1. Include all important information.<br />
2. Define your business.<br />
3. Make it extraordinary.<br />
4. Place a picture.<br />
5. Use good quality paper.<br />
6. Use right size.<br />
<br />
Below is the collection of few of the visiting/business cards that are our favorites. Do let us know what you feel about these.<br />

You will be forgiven for making the assumption that business cards,
as we know them, were invented in the 1980s, the decade that corporate
was in the bandwagon list. Sorry to tell you, but you’d be wrong.
Business cards have been in use for many, many centuries. Almost as soon
as companies and individuals savvied-up to the idea of advertising
their services, business cards have been around. Here we take a quick
dash through the decades to look at the origins of that humble, yet
invaluable, 3.5 by 2-inch rectangle of card, tracing the development
from its invention back in the 15th century up to today’s examples –
which more often than not aren’t even made of a card!<br />
<h3>
Visiting cards</h3>
Experts tend to agree that the origins of the business card can be
traced back to China 15th century. They were known as ‘visiting cards’
and served as a calling card to announce one’s intention of meeting with
another individual. They could also be handed at the door of elite
establishments so that the owner of the establishment could decide if
permitting a meeting was worthwhile. Visiting cards were an essential
self-promotion tool of the upper classes, a personal advertisement and a
basis of forging an introduction.<br />

<h3>
<a name='more'></a>17th Century</h3>
The practise of exchanging cards soared during the 17th century,
particularly in Europe. The highly mannered reign of Louis XIV is
considered to be the calling card heyday, where an individual’s success
or failure in society often depended on the strength of their personal
promotion.<br />

<h3>
Business card etiquette</h3>
During the 17th and 18th centuries, a strict protocol existed to
ensure that calling cards were employed correctly. If a gentleman wished
to call on a lady, he had a lot to think about. On making a first call,
he had to make sure there is a separate card for each lady of the
household. Alternatively, he could fold his card down the middle to
indicate it was meant for all members of the household. Cards had to be
left with the servant; admission to the house would only be permitted
after the hostess had examined the card. Calling cards were to be
collected on a small tray kept in the hallway, which would be presented
by a servant on the palm of his left hand. While a gentleman may carry
his cards loose in his pocket, a lady should use a card case. If the
gentleman received no acknowledgement of his card, he had to accept that
there would be no continuation of the acquaintance. And on no account
was it ever acceptable to sneak a peak at cards that had been left by
other callers.<br />

<h3>
Trade cards</h3>
Later in the 17th century, London merchants began to use ‘trade
cards’. At a time when street numbers were not in popular use, these
cards were a crucial promotional tool which informed customers of both
the business location and the serves available. They would be handed out
in public squares and markets and on occasions could be used to
establish trade links and credit with other local businesses. Trade
cards were taken very seriously, and a signed card would be considered
contractually and legally binding.<br />

<h3>
18th – 19th century</h3>
The earliest business cards were made using wood-cut and letterpress
techniques. During the 18th century, copperplate engraving became the
standard practise. Cards tended to be single color prints until the
advent of lithographic printing in the 19th century, which made it
possible to use several colors.<br />

The merger<br />
The industrial revolution led to a lessening of rigid rules when it
came to formality. The lines between social calling and trade promotion
became blurred, leading to the merger of the calling card and trade
card, which could be handed out on informal and formal occasions. That
said, the upper classes retained a certain snobbishness towards the
handing out of trade cards in polite company, particularly in Europe.<br />

<h3>
20th – 21st centuries</h3>
Today’s business cards come in an array of shapes, sizes and
materials. Designs are no longer limited to paper-based products and
almost any surface can be printed on to create a unique card. And
thankfully, handing out your business card is no longer the etiquette
minefield as it was a few centuries ago. There are still a few essential
rules that should be followed to ensure its success. Keep your card easy
to read, service-appropriate and include all your relevant contact
details if you’re interested in building business acquaintances that get
you further than the front door.<br />
